OUR HISTORY
‘Gurukul’ (under the aegis of the Navnirman Charitable Trust) came into being on 9th October, 1988 when Late Shri Anantrao Shintre and his wife Smt. Anjali Shintre converted the ancestral home of the Shintre family in the village of Jambhulpada into a holistic institution for underprivileged students to pursue their dream of foundational education and human & social values. Initially, they personally looked after 5 children, taking care of their food, clothing and shelter.
SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS
With passage of time, the family home proved too small and Shri Anantrao Shintre donated his own plot of land opposite the family home and, with the help of a donation from the Smt. Indirabai Behere Trust, Pune, a one-storey building was constructed on this plot of land. A further renovation and construction of a library room in the premises was undertaken with the backing of Shri Dipten Putatunda. The construction of the second storey, completed in 2020 with the contribution of the Aditya Birla Group, made Gurukul into the towering structure it is today.
Sunrise Developments at Gurukul
In accordance with the vision of Shri Anantrao Shintre for Gurukul to be an aid in a student’s journey of becoming a global citizen, we believe that students must have exposure to aspects of life beyond academics, we encourage students to participate in extra-curricular activities and also organise such activities within the Gurukul premises. Such activities are also open to students of the local school who are not residents of Gurukul.
The Gurukul factor
We at Gurukul derive inspiration from the great Rishi Sandipani and have resolved that our wards should be able to keep pace with the fast-changing world. Apart from a dedicated library room, we have also installed an e-learning system. The system has English as well as Marathi language settings and ensures that students gain exposure to new methods of learning. We also organise annual educational tours for the students and give them an insight into real-world life.
